Random acts of randomness are not random acts of kindness. The distinction is extremely important. Random acts of randomness are not there to make the world a better place, or to make people smile. They're there to shock and confuse people. It's not impossible to do this with nice things: these days most people so rarely do nice things for each other that when it happens - especially grand gestures - it's quite shocking and confusing, but it's also not required. You can shock and confuse and be a complete bastard just as easily.

Random acts of randomness, like glamourbombs, tend to be one-off and fairly small things, which may require some preparation in advance but often can be initiated fairly spontaneously. Larger events tend to be covered by mind fucks, culture jamming, and the like.

Random Acts

Anything you do that is out of the ordinary and apparently without cause is a random act of randomness. It doesn't need to be actually random, just have the appearance of it - you may wish to 'randomly' act during times when the effect is maximised: commuter hell is always an obvious target. It's worth noting that many random acts will have ethical considerations, and often require potentially angering someone, in person.

Here's some suggestions:

• Give people money.
  • While waiting in a fast food place, try to pay for the person who's in front of you and see if they'll let you.
• Insult people on public transport
• Throw rotting fruit at passers by.
• Dump glitter or flour into people's hair.
• Give away CDs, as with the glamourbomb, but fill them with porn soundtracks or 60 minutes of loud swearing.
• Hand out flyers on public transport with nonsense or cabalistic messages.
• Bluejacking.
• Initiate conversations during commuter hell and pretend to be something completely absurd, such as:
  • An MI5 agent on your way home from the office.
  • The Pope's personal secretary on holiday.
  • An alien.
• Burst into song on public transport (specifically while not wearing headphones), then sit down and pretend nothing happened.
• Piss, shit, or wank blatantly in public (at a time and place when it wouldn't be expected - during the day is best).
• Stop people on the street and attempt to convert them to a non-existent religion.
